An acid neutralizer uses calcite (crushed limestone) and magnesium oxide as a media bed. As the acidic water passes through the conditioner, the acidity dissolves the media bed raising the pH of your water. Depending on your water usage, most systems need a one-year service when calcite and magnesium oxide are added to the conditioner.
